Simple common colds โ with symptoms such as coughing, a stuffy nose and sometimes a mild fever โ are usually caused by viruses. They almost always go away on their own within about two weeks, and often start to get better after just a few days.
Because antibiotics only fight bacteria, and not viruses, they’re usually ineffective against colds.
Why virus is ineffective against antibodies โ?
- Viruses pose a considerable challenge to the body’s immune system because they hide inside cells. This makes it difficult for antibodies to reach them.
Correct ways to cure ๐
Resting in bed, drinking plenty of fluids (particularly water) and taking over-the-counter medication to relieve symptoms will help you recover from a virus. This is generally enough for otherwise healthy people.
** Like any living organism, bacteria can evolve and adapt to changing environments. This means that bacteria can become โresistantโ to antibiotics, if exposed to them enough.

Cold and Cough are usually caused by viral infections and “anitbiotics” are only effective against bacterial infections. So, If we use them in case of viral infections also , this makes our body resistant to these antibiotics, which eventually makes these medicines ineffective in the long term against bacterial infections, doing more harm than good.
So make sure to take antibiotics only when you have bacterial infection.
